ORAN, Mo. — Verdell Hooe, 99, of Oran passed away Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016, at the Chaffee Nursing Center in Chaffee, Missouri.
She was born Aug. 16, 1917, in Hartman, Arkansas, to the late Ben and Leora Pyron Phillips. She married William Edward Hooe on June 5, 1943, and he preceded her in death Nov. 4, 1987.
Verdell was a homemaker. She was a charter member of Hooe Baptist Church in Oran. She loved to play the piano at church. She taught adult women’s Sunday-school class for many years.
Survivors include a son, Dennis E. (Sherry) Hooe of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Linda Kay (Leonard) Glastetter of Oran; four grandchildren, Brent Glastetter of Mooresville, North Carolina, James Hooe of Cape Girardeau, Corey Hooe of Warrenton, Missouri, and Matthew Williams of Sullivan, Missouri; and four great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Phillips of Oran.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Hooe Baptist Church in Oran, with the Rev. Kenneth Shoemaker officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hills Memorial Garden near Morley, Missouri.
