Vencil Henry Duncan, 80, of Gainesville, Mo., died Thursday, Aug. 11, 2005, at his home. He was born Aug. 24, 1924, in Red Hill, Va., son of Charlie and Annie Kelly Duncan. Vencil Henry Duncan, 80, of Gainesville, Mo., died Thursday, Aug. 11, 2005, at his home.

He was born Aug. 24, 1924, in Red Hill, Va., son of Charlie and Annie Kelly Duncan. He and Verna Mae Mizell were married March 6, 1971, at Rockview, Mo.

Vencil worked at Hughes Aircraft in Fullerton, Calif., and Cape Mobile Home Mart in Cape Girardeau.

He was a scoutmaster more than 25 years with Troop 126. He received the Golden Bear for outstanding service to boyhood Dec. 4, 1962, and the Silver Beaver for distinguished service to boyhood Feb. 22, 1969. He was a member of the Order of the Arrow.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Verna Mae; five children, Wayne Duncan and wife Linda of Springfield, Mo., Earl Duncan of Neosho, Mo., Dale Duncan and wife Kay of Marble Hill, Mo., Linda Williams of Advance, Mo., Diane Horn and husband Ken of Republic, Mo.; two sisters, Ruth Webb and husband Edwin of Troy, Va., Shirley Battcher of Fresno, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Virginia; two sisters, and two brothers.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. today at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Gainesville, with the Rev. Ron Richardson officiating. Burial will be in Lilly Ridge Cemetery in Gainesville.
