BERNIE, Mo. -- Vena Bernice Maxam, 88, of Bernie died Monday, April 16, 2001, at Dexter Memorial Hospital in Dexter, Mo.
She was born June 4, 1912, near Malden, Mo., daughter of Thomas David and Minnie Parks Davis. She and Carl Edwin Maxam were married May 16, 1950, at Kennett, Mo. He died Dec. 4, 1995.
Maxam received a bachelor's degree from Southeast Missouri State University. She was a music teacher at schools in Pontiac and Oscoda, Mich., and in Southeast Missouri at Bethany, Malden, Kennett and Bernie. She also gave private voice and piano lessons.
She was a member of Missouri State Teachers Association, and Eastern Star in Malden.
Survivors include three daughters, Roberta Rodgers of Phoenix, Ariz., Joan Johnson of Fostoria, Mich., Gail Kasper of Mayville, Mich.; two brothers, E.J. Davis of Farmington, Mich., John Davis of Dallas, Texas; two sisters, Faustina Ford of Paragould, Ark., Mary Wimp of Fulton, Mo.; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, a daughter, two brothers, and a sister.
Friends may call at Rainey Funeral Home in Bernie from 6-8 p.m. Friday.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Susan Marner-Sides officiating.
