ADVANCE, Mo. -- Veda Nadine Deckard, 94, of Advance passed away Sunday, May 15, 2022, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Oct. 5, 1927, in Wappapello, Missouri, the daughter of Beauford and Stella Ward. Veda and James Leo Deckard were united in marriage on Nov. 17, 1944, at Corning, Arkansas, and he preceded her in death July 27, 1999.
Veda worked a quality controller at Bussman Cooper Industries in St. Louis from 1954 to 1988. She was a member of the Advance Faith Baptist Church.
Veda enjoyed working in her yard with her flowers. She had been an avid bowler and loved working out at Fitness Plus in Cape Girardeau. She adored spending time her family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her son, Mike (Paula) Deckard of Bull Shoals, Arkansas; two brothers, Donnie (LaVonda) West of Bull Shoals and Pete (Ellen) West of Zalma, Missouri; four grandchildren, Sean Deckard, Justin (Crystal) Deckard, Timothy Bishop and John (Erica) Bishop; and three great-grandchildren, MacKenzie Bishop, Cole Deckard and Stella Deckard.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a baby son, Ronald Deckard; two brothers, Elva "Peck" West and Tommy West; and two sisters, Sis Jackson and Lois Gebro.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the chapel with the Revs. Dennis Allen and Leeman Shirrell officiating. Burial will follow at Berrong Cemetery near Zalma, Missouri.
