Veda Jewell Chailland, 84, of Bell City, Mo., died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2009 at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Dec. 20, 1925, at Kennett, Mo., daughter of Perry Ransom and Pearl Brotherton Bennett. She and Herman Lee Chailland were married Nov. 9, 1944, in Piggott, Ark.

Chailland graduated from Honersville High School in 1944. She worked at Thorngate in Chaffee, Mo.

She was a member of General Baptist Church in Bell City.

Survivors include three sons, Kenneth Chailland of Herculaneum, Mo., James Chailland of Oran, Mo., Craig Chailland of Farmington, Mo.; three daughters, Judith Hinkle of Advance, Mo., Kathy Thomas of St. Louis, Barbara Grubbs of Dexter, Mo.; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Morgan Funeral Home in Advance.

A service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Advance, with the Rev. James Jacobs officiating.
