SIKESTON -- Val Sharp Sr., 81, died Friday, April 19, 1996, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
He was born Jan. 26, 1915, at New Madrid, to Harry Garwood and Madge Mitchell Sharp. He and Ruby L. Stoner were married Sept. 12, 1936, at Sikeston. She died April 28, 1970.
Sharp owned and operated the Sharp Buick Auto dealership in Sikeston from 1930 until 1959. He also was a co-owner of Mitchell-Sharp Chevrolet from 1930 until 1969. He was a member of the Thirty-Second Degree Masons and the Shrine Moolah Temple in St. Louis. From 1947 until 1989, Sharp served on the board of directors at the Missouri Delta Medical Center and was a past president of the Sikeston Chamber of Commerce. He also was a member of the First United Methodist Church and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include two sons, Val Sharp Jr. of Stamford, Conn., and Bill Sharp of Sikeston; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. today at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the chapel. The Rev. Charles E. Buck will officiate, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston.
