Funeral service for V. Vernon Volkerding, Sena Fawn Drive, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel. The Rev. Stephen McDougall will officiate, with burial in Russell Heights Cemetery at Jackson.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-9 p.m. today.
Volkerding, 62, died Sunday, May 22, 1994, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
He was born Dec. 12, 1931, at Gordonville, son of Louis C. and Oma O'Neal Volkerding. He and Fern Howard were married Dec. 29, 1951, in Cape Girardeau. She died April 3, 1978.
After serving in the Korean War with the U.S. Army, he moved to Cape Girardeau from the family farm at Gordonville. He was employed by Cape Girardeau Police Department two years, and worked a short time at Todt Sheet Metal. He was a lineman with Missouri Utilities/Union Electric more than 30 years, retiring in February 1991.
Volkerding was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, and the executive board of the local International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He was active in the American Legion baseball program, and drove the bus for the team.
Survivors include two sons, Jeff Volkerding of Perryville, Gregory Volkerding of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Jennifer Sanders of Cape Girardeau, Vicky Roundtree of Parker, Colo.; a brother, Nelson Volkerding of Cape Girardeau, and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother and sister.
