JACKSON -- Tony A. Caruso, 83, of Jackson died Saturday, Jan. 17, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 19, 1914, at Venice, Ill., son of Lawrence and Mary Simino Caruso. He married Vera Brinker on Jan. 13, 1940, at St. Louis.
Caruso worked at the small arms ammunition plant in St. Louis and at Quality Dairy in St. Louis for 26 years. He was the police chief and assistant chief at Troy, Ill., for 12 years. He also worked for the Georgia Pacific plant in Cape Girardeau for five years, retiring in 1980.
He was a veteran of World War II and was given a disability discharge in 1945. He was a member of the American Legion in Jackson and Disabled American Veterans of St. Louis.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Jackson where he was an active usher and greeter.
Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4 to 8 p.m. today.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Grant Gillard officiating. Burial will be in the Russell Heights Cemetery.
