BERTRAND, Mo. — Tom L. Bridges, 84, of Bertrand, formerly of Southern Illinois, passed away Saturday, Oct. 5, 2019, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Tom was born Sept. 29, 1935, in Tamms, Illinois, to the late William Lloyd “Cody” and Edna Mae Brachen Bridges.
He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean War; was an area minister for over 51 years; and was a member of the honor guard burial team. He was a member of New Savannah Baptist Church in Blodgett, Missouri.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Blumberg Bridges, on Nov. 30, 2014; two brothers; three sisters; and two infant brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Bridges of Bertrand; sons, Tom L. (Carol) Bridges of Tamms and Chuck Bridges of Benton, Missouri; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and other relatives and friends.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until noon today at Jones Funeral Home in Tamms, where funeral services will begin at noon, with the Rev. Buddy Walls officiating. Interment will follow in St. John’s Cemetery in Dongola, Illinois. Full military honors will be given by the Illinois National Guard Burial Team and area veterans.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of memorials to Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital in memory of Tom Bridges.
