THOMAS SMITH

BLOOMFIELD -- Funeral service for Thomas R. "Bud" Smith of Bloomfield will be held at 11 a.m. today at Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home. The Rev. Hank Foster will officiate, with burial in Bloomfield Cemetery.

Smith, 83, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 1998, at Dexter Memorial Hospital in Dexter.

He was born Dec. 21, 1914, at Swinton, son of Walter and Mary Ellen Swindell Smith. He and Mary L. Moore were married Feb. 24, 1943, in Seattle, Wash.

Smith spent most of his life in the Acorn Ridge community, where he farmed. He was a member of the Christian Church at Swinton. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Terry Smith of Bloomfield; a daughter, Patricia Monehan of Bloomfield; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
