VILLA RIDGE, Mo. -- Thomas Marion Simmons, 67, died Dec. 17, 2014, at his Villa Ridge home surrounded by his family. Tom was born Sept. 5, 1947, in Cape Girardeau, to the late Lyman Boyd and Nellie Grey Simmons. Tom grew up in and around Commerce, Missouri, and attended Thomas Kelly High School in Benton, Missouri. Tom served in the U.S. Navy from 1967 to 1970. Before retiring in 2010, he worked for Tire Shredders Inc. in Lincoln, Illinois...

VILLA RIDGE, Mo. -- Thomas Marion Simmons, 67, died Dec. 17, 2014, at his Villa Ridge home surrounded by his family.

Tom was born Sept. 5, 1947, in Cape Girardeau, to the late Lyman Boyd and Nellie Grey Simmons.

Tom grew up in and around Commerce, Missouri, and attended Thomas Kelly High School in Benton, Missouri. Tom served in the U.S. Navy from 1967 to 1970. Before retiring in 2010, he worked for Tire Shredders Inc. in Lincoln, Illinois.

Tom is survived by his daughter, Jennifer (Ryan) Soper-Wilper of St. Joseph, Missouri; three grandchildren, Ryan Soper, Anna Soper and Katherine Wilper; brother Lyman Boyd Simmons of Scott City; sister Nevada (Chuck) Moore of Las Vegas; nieces and nephews Robin (Gus) Viviano of Pacific, Missouri, Patrick (Claire) Moore of Des Moines, Iowa, Tracy (Monica) Simmons of Houston, Mississippi, Brian (Jennifer) Simmons of Cape Girardeau and Angela Gross of Jackson; and many great-nieces and -nephews.

He also was preceded in death by his brother, Roy Dale Simmons.

A memorial visitation will be from noon until the time of service Monday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the chapel, with the Rev. Michael Woods officiating.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
