Thomas Michael Meyer, 73, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, June 25, 2022, at his home.

He was born Feb. 16, 1949, in Cape Girardeau to Thomas L. and Helen Giroir Meyer. He and Mary E. Griffith were married June 2, 1973, at St. Mary's Cathedral in Cape Girardeau.

He served in the Navy Seabees during the Vietnam War era. Tom was the commander of Seabee Island X5.

Tom was a 1967 graduate of Notre Dame High School and received a bachelor of science degree in business administration from Southeast Missouri State University.

He was president, owner and operator of Thomas L. Meyer Realty. He had also served as president of the Missouri Association of Realtors in 1995.

He was a member of St. Mary Cathedral, Knights of Columbus Council 1111 and Thomas A. Langen Fourth Degree Assembly No. 568. He had a term as a member of the Southeast Missouri State University Board of Regents. He also served as president of the Southeast Missouri State University Alumni Association.

As an active member in the local community, he was the president of the Evening Optimist Club, president of the Habitat for Humanity and board member of the Missouri Veteran's home.

Survivors include his wife, Mary E. Meyer of Cape Girardeau; son, Thomas N. (Bethany) Meyer of St. Louis; four daughters, Heather (Frank) Phillips of Wentzville, Missouri, Jean Boctor of Ballwin, Missouri, Catherine Meyer and Tara Meyer, both of Los Angeles; four sisters, Mary Jean McIntyre of Cape Girardeau, Debbie Joyce of Farmington, Missouri, Beth (Alan) McFerron of Cape Girardeau, Madonna (Ken) Boyd of California; brother, David Meyer of Cape Girardeau; and four grandchildren, Rami Boctor, Hattie Phillips, R.J. Phillips and Ellis Phillips.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Janice Marie Meyer.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m. with Knights of Columbus Rosary immediately following.

Funeral mass will be 10 a.m., Thursday at St. Mary Cathedral in Cape Girardeau with the Rev. Allan Saunders officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Cape Girardeau. Graveside military rites will be provided by Missouri Honors Team.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Missouri Veteran's Home of Cape Girardeau and Notre Dame Regional High School.
