Thelma M. Chappell, 75, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at Southeast Missouri Hosdeau in 1963 from Ironton, Mo. She had owned and operated Thelma's Lounge many years and also was a teacher at Head Start. She was a member of First Assembly of God Church, VFW Auxiliary and a charter member of Eagles Auxiliary.
Survivors include a son, Bill McCarter of Arvada, Colo.; three daughters, Joann Trickey and Sharon Pinkley of Cape Girardeau, Betty Ruth of Scott City, Mo.; three brothers, Raymond Bailey of Troy, Mo., Kenneth Bailey of state of Ohio, Junior Bailey of St. Louis; three sisters, Darlene Gray of Bland, Mo., Shirley Smith of Rolla, Mo., Frances Campbell of Festus, Mo.; a friend, Bill Snider of Cape Girardeau; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. today at the chapel, with the Revs. Gary Brothers and Charles Lance officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.
Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
