GIPSY, Mo. -- The Rev. Robert Portor, 72, died Tuesday, April 17, 2007, at Saint Francis Medical Center.
He was born March 26, 1935, at Buchanan, Mo., son of Allen Portor and Jessie Gilliland. He and Phyllis Meador were married Aug. 13, 1958, at Zalma, Mo.
Portor was a member of Palmore Gen. Baptist Church near Hahn, Mo., and pastor there for nearly 18 years. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a retired farmer.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Michael Portor of Pearl City, Hawaii, and David Portor of Gipsy; three daughters, Rachel Mouser of Marble Hill, Mo., Mary Rouggly of Grassy, Mo., and Jenny Underwood of McGee, Mo.; a brother, Frank Portor of Advance, Mo.; four sisters, Nora Strickland and Dorothy Myers of Gipsy, Dora Holt of Zalma, and Minnie Whitener of St. Charles, Mo.; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in the death by his parents, a son, an infant grandson, a brother and a sister.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Morgan Funeral Home.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Berrong Gen. Baptist Church near Gipsy. The Rev. Steve Sander will officiate, and the Rev. Lloyd Ray Green will assist. Interment will be at the Berrong Cemetery.
