TULSA, Okla. -- Terry Paul Sutton, 72, of Claremore, Oklahoma, died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017, at Hillcrest Hospital in Tulsa after a long illness.
He was born March 16, 1944, in Merced, California, to Paul and Dorothy Bagain Sutton.
After World War II, the family moved to Columbus, Kansas.
Terry earned a master's degree and a doctorate in economics at Kansas State University in Pittsburgh, Kansas. He was a professor of economics at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau for 30 years and at Rogers State University in Claremore for 12 years.
Terry loved and enjoyed teaching and also loved restoring old cars, rock 'n' roll music, books of all kinds and movies.
He was predeceased by both parents.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Casey Sutton; sister, Tamara Sutton Buckles; brother-in-law, Gary Buckles; and three stepchildren, Bryan (JoAnn) Robinson, Laura (Joseph) Jolley and Tracy Robinson.
Terry was proud to be a 50-year survivor of Type 1 diabetes. Donations may be made in his memory to the American Diabetes Association.
A private memorial service will be at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church in Tulsa.
Rose Hill Funeral Home in Tulsa was in charge of arrangements.
