JACKSON -- Sylvester Nothdurft, 82, of Jackson died Saturday at Chateau Girardeau in Cape where he had been a resident for five years.

He was born Oct. 17, 1911 at Gordonville, the son of Samuel and Emma Wilkening Nothdurft.

He married the former Marguerite Deneke Nov. 9, 1936 at Gordonville. She survives.

He is also survived by two sons, Glenn of Oran, and Paul of Gordonville; three daughters, Joan Sebaugh, Sedgewickville, Karen Kuehle, Fredricktown, Donna Fields, Gordonville; and 12 grandchildren.

One sister preceded him in death.

He lived most of his life on a four-generation farm near Gordonville.

He was active in Zion Methodist Church near Gordonville until his retirement. He and his wife moved to Jackson and joined the New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson.

He was district lay leader for seven years and a charter member of Zion Methodist Men's Club.

He has served as a delegate to the annual conference and the jurisdictional conference of the United Methodist Church.

He was a member of the Methodist Rural Fellowship and a board member for the Old McKendree Chapel, the Citizen's Mutual Insurance Company, Ceramo Company, the Farm Bureau Insurance Company, and the Co-Op Service Center Board.

Nothdurft was a member of Jackson Chamber of Commerce, the Jackson Rotary Club, the Jackson R-2 Board of Education and the Southeast Missouri Hospital Association.

For several years he was associated with the Soil Conservation Service and Agriculture Stabilization service of Cape County.

In 1986, he received the R.A. Fulenwider Memorial Award for community service.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at New McKendree United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Zion Methodist Cemetery at Gordonville.

Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4-8 p.m. Monday.
