NEELY'S LANDING -- Sylvester "Syl" Hitchcock, 82, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 1996, at his home in Neely's Landing.
He was born June 12, 1913, at Neely's Landing, son of Perry Hitchcock and Mary Rankin Hitchcock. He and Imogene King were married Nov. 4, 1938. She died March 10, 1982.
Hitchcock moved from Delta to the Leemon community in 1946. In 1960, he moved to Neely's Landing. He worked at the former Jackson Handle Factory and Davis Electric in Cape Girardeau. He was also a farmer. He was a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church near Neely's Landing.
Survivors are a son, Jim Hitchcock of Millersville; a daughter, Elnora Breckenridge of Jackson; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson. The Rev. Don Slatten will officiate, with burial in the New Bethel Cemetery.
