SIKESTON -- Stillie Rosevelt Leon Byrd, 53, of Sikeston died Thursday, Nov. 4, 1999, at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
He was born Dec. 23, 1945, in Geiger, Ala., son Rosevelt and Mariah Andrews Byrd. He was a member of the Grace Missionary Baptist Church in Sikeston.
He moved to Kentucky in 1962, graduated from high school and joined the U.S. Army.
He served in Saigon during the Vietnam War. He was in the service for three years and received five medals.
He is survived by a daughter, Rebecca White of St. Louis; five sisters, Helen Rucker of Sikeston, Hattie Hopper of Haywood City, Rebecca Brent of Louisville, Ky., Dora Foster and Myrs Dixon, both of Detroit, Mich.; a brother, Norman Byrd of Insker, Mich; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.
Visitation will be from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. with Brother Major Clark officiating.
Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston.
