MATTHEWS -- Harvey Steven "Steve" Spencer, 73, Matthews Route 1, died Thursday, Sept. 29, 1994, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Sept. 9, 1921, in Blytheville, Ark., son of Noel and Edith Hankins Spencer. He and Ruby Helms were married Nov. 17, 1941, at New Madrid.

Spencer had been a relay truck driver with Interstate Bakeries. He was a member of Teamsters Local 574, and attended the First Assembly of God Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Harvey Spencer Jr. of Canalou, Curtis Spencer of Sikeston, John Spencer of Kewanee; two daughters, Linda Spencer of Jackson, Marlene Davidson of Matthews; two brothers, William Spencer of Kewanee, George Bennett of Tampa, Fla.; two sisters, Betty Funk of Harrisburg, Ark., Ann Evans of East Prairie; 11 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, a brother and three sisters.

Friends may call at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston from 5-8 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the chapel, with the Revs. Jerry Harris, Jim Calvin and Mike Cartwright officiating. Burial will be in Matthews Cemetery.
