As a believer and child of God, Stella M. Hahs entered the hosts of Heaven on Monday, March 20, 2017, at Jackson Manor Nursing Home, three weeks before her 97th birthday.

She was born April 11, 1920, to Oscar and Addie Klaus Lohman in Cape Girardeau.

Her education came from the one-room country schoolhouses she attended, which included Goshen, Buckeye and Arnsberg. Her home was in Friedheim most of her younger years.

Stella had three sisters and two brothers, Wilbur "Wib" Lohman, Virgil Lohman Mildred (Mrs. Lester Ruppel), Erma (Mrs. Clifford Thomas) and Lydia Wills, all preceding her in death.

On Aug. 9, 1938, Stella married the love of her life, Cletus W. Hahs, a nearby farm boy from Daisy. Their lives were inseparable for 76 years.

After moving to Jackson, Cletus became a one-room country school teacher at Williams Creek. Stella was quick to assist with the school's box suppers and helping students practice for the holiday school programs.

In 1941, when Cletus became owner of C.W. Hahs Shell Service Station in Jackson, which lasted for 33 years, Stella managed the inside sales and the business' bookkeeping.

She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her daughter, Beverly Kaye (T. Ronald) Hahs, and her son, Dwain Lindell (Susan) Hahs of Jackson. Grandchildren are Brian (Julie) Hahs of Jackson, Christy (Mike) Flannery of Holly Springs, North Carolina, Lance (Nancy) Moll of Downers Grove, Illinois, Bethany Taylor of Overland Park, Kansas, Justin (Ashley) Hahs of Fairport, New York, and Jessica Hahs of Ballwin, Missouri. She had 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

The couple were members of New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson until they moved to their 1853 family farm near Daisy, at which time they joined New Salem United Methodist Church. Even though they moved back to Jackson in 2004, they loved to attend and participate with their many close friends in church activities at Daisy.

Stella was a loving and supporting mother, helping as den mother for Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, DeMolay and PTA. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, often asking how they were doing and what activities they were involved in.

She delighted in her hobbies of hand-stitching quilts, gardening and fishing at their farm ponds, especially with her sister Erma, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The modern conveniences in Stella's farm kitchen did not always replace the big Southern Comfort woodstove, from which one could get warmed in the wintertime, or find her homemade bread, home-cooked meals and delicious pies, for which she became known.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson and from 10 a.m. until service time Friday at New Salem Methodist Church in Daisy.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church, with Pastor Steven Koerner officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to New Salem United Methodist Church, 650 State Highway AA, Daisy, MO 63743.

Online condolences may be sent to www.mccombsfuneralhome.com.
