JACKSON -- Funeral for Stacy Preston Sims of Jackson will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church in Cape Girardeau. The Rev. Paul Currie will officiate, with burial in Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau from 4-9 p.m. today.

Sims, 31, died Sunday, July 19, 1998, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Feb. 7, 1967, in Meridian, Miss., son of Ronald Edsel and Johnnie Gayle Pylate Sims.

Sims was a special agent with the Drug Enforcement Agency assigned to the Cape Girardeau office for two years. Prior to joining the DEA, he was employed with the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Department, Pemiscot County Sheriff's Department, Bootheel Drug Task Force, and had been an investigator with the Southeast Missouri Drug Task Force. He was a trooper with the Missouri State Highway Patrol from 1994 to 1996.

He received a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Southeast Missouri State University in 1993. In 1997, he was awarded the Distinguished Service Award from the U.S. Attorney, Eastern District of Missouri.

Sims was a member of First Baptist Church in Caruthersville.

Survivors include his father of Caruthersville; his mother and stepfather, Gayle and Pat Gorham of Jackson; a brother, Peyton Sims of Jackson; two stepbrothers, Kevin Gorham of Lincoln, Neb., Jay Gorham of Jackson; paternal grandparents, John and Doris Sims of Meridian; maternal grandparents, John and Eris Pylate Jr. of Caruthersville; and a special friend, Cicely Brenner of Cape Girardeau.
