The Rev. S.S. Borum of Cape Girardeau, 96, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at Southeast Missouri Hospital. Borum was born near Marion, Ill., on May 30, 1904, the son of John Borum and Martha Arms Borum. The Rev. S.S. Borum of Cape Girardeau, 96, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

Borum was born near Marion, Ill., on May 30, 1904, the son of John Borum and Martha Arms Borum. He graduated from Union University in Jackson, Tenn., and the Southwest Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. He was ordained in 1928.

Borum pastored churches in Missouri, Illinois, Tennessee, Indiana and Michigan but moved back to Cape Girardeau in 1973. He pastored at Cape Girardeau's Red Star Baptist Church for seven years, then, upon retiring, served as interim pastor at several area churches.

He held services at the Lutheran Home monthly for the past 25 years.

Borum married Beulah Marie Mitchell on Sept. 9, 1933, in Jeffersonville, Ind.

He was a member of St. Marks AF&AM and was a 32nd-degree Mason. He was a member of the Scottish Rite.

Borum was preceded in death by his wife, a brother, two sisters and a son, Ted Borum.

He is survived by two sons, Donald Borum of Tipton, Mo., and Gary Borum of Gainesville, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Wanda Borum of Cape Girardeau; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Friends may call on the Ford & Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Chapel from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today

Services will be held at the chapel on Wednesday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Don Ford and the Rev. Luther Rhodes officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Southeast Missouri Hospital Foundation Employee Assistance Fund or the Lutheran Home.
