BERTRAND, Mo. -- William S. "Sonny" Golightly Sr., 97, of Union City, Tenn., died Monday, April 23, 2001, at Beverly Nursing Home in Union City.
He was born Sept. 2, 1903, in Bertrand, son of Jesse Calvin and Willie Florence Steward Golightly. He and Gladys Marie Whybark were married in 1937. She died Sept. 9, 1972. He later married Hazel Witt Sept. 1, 1973. She died Nov. 26, 1989.
Golightly had been a constable in East Prairie, Mo., and coached Golden Gloves Boxing. He also worked at Warren Petroleum Refinery in Crossville, Ill.
He served in the National Guard.
Survivors include three sons, Michael Golightly of Cottontown, Tenn., Roger Golightly of Wingo, Ky., William Golightly Jr. of Union City; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, a sister, and a grandson.
Friends may call at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston, Mo., from 5-8 p.m. today.
Funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the chapel. Burial will be in Dogwood Cemetery near East Prairie.
