APPLE CREEK -- Funeral service for Sister Mary Lavern Buchheit was held Feb. 22 at the Ruma Provincial House in Ruma, Ill. Officiating were the Rev. Richard Buchheit and Msgr. Jerome Buchheit, cousins; Chaplain Gene Linnemann and the Rev. Charles Herbst. Burial was in Ruma Provincial House Cemetery.

Sister Buchheit, 83 years old, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 1991, at Ruma House.

She was born May 22, 1907, at Apple Creek, daughter of Joseph and Anna Schott Buchheit.

She taught school at Silver Lake and at Hoffman School in Biehle before entering the convent. She taught 17 years in Catholic elementary schools at New Hamburg, Oran, Vienna and Zell, and for 17 years in Illinois at Evansville, Mt. Carmel, Waterloo, Fairview Heights and O'Fallon.

After retiring she began a ministry of caring for the elderly at MariaCare Nursing Home in Redbud, Ill., the Skilled Nursing Care Facility of St. Clements Hospital of Redbud, and the senior sisters at Redbud and Ruma.

Survivors include four sisters, Dorothy Hennemann of Perryville, Theresa Hendricks of Quincy, Ill., Marie Baer of St. Louis, Lonita Baer of Old Appleton; three brothers, Isadore Buchheit of Perryville, Theodore Buchheit of Apple Creek, and Phillip Buchheit of Chaffee.
