KELSO -- Funeral Mass for Sister Mary Helen Compas of Ruma, Ill., was held Thursday at Adorers of the Blood of Christ Province Center Chapel in Ruma. Burial was in the convent cemetery.
Welge-Pechacek Funeral Home in Red Bud, Ill., was in charge of arrangements.
Compas, 97, died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 1997, at Clementine Hall in Ruma.
Mary Susanna Compas was a native of Kelso, daughter of Frank and Amelia Dunger Compas.
Compas professed vows as an Adorer of the Blood of Christ July 2, 1929, and took the religious name of Sister Mary Helen.
She taught in elementary schools in Missouri and Illinois more than 40 years. She retired in 1973 and spent 15 years in service at Ruma and Belleville, Ill., and at Zell.
Survivors include a sister, Sister Celeste Compas of Ruma.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, and five brothers.
