Sister Elizabeth Zagar, 91, died Friday, Aug. 12, 2005, at Anna House -- the Sarah Community in Bridgeton, Mo. Her religious name was Emma.
She was born and reared in St. Louis.
Zagar entered the congregation of the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1933 and professed her final vows in 1942. She received a bachelor of arts degree in English in 1967 from the former Notre Dame College in St. Louis.
She was a housekeeper 10 years in Missouri and Illinois; was a nurse aide at the former SSND retirement center, Villa Gesu in St. Louis; and worked in food service at Notre Dame High School in St. Louis from 1946 to 1948.
She taught primary and intermediate education 39 years in Missouri and Illinois, including St. Mary's Grade School in Cape Girardeau from 1954 to 1964. She retired from Villa Gesu in 1999 and moved to the Sarah Community.
Survivors include a brother, Alexander Zagar of Osage Beach, Mo.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at SSND Motherhouse Chapel in Lemay, Mo. Burial will be in the Notre Dame Motherhouse Cemetery.
