MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Silas Riley "Si" Shell, 81, of Ellisville, Mo., died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, at Bethesda Meadow Nursing Home in Ellisville.
He was born Jan. 27, 1922, in Lutesville, Mo., son of Charley and Sadie Francis Shell. He and Joenia Eaker were married March 22, 1941. She died Sept. 6, 2001.
Shell was a life member of VFW Post 3944, and member of Local 417 United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include two sons, Michael Shell of Gardner, Kan., Dennis Shell of Edwardsville, Ill.; four daughters, Shirley Smith of Fredericktown, Mo., Paula Warner of Dardenne Prairie, Mo., Vickie Rolape of St. Ann, Mo., Veronica Harris of St. Charles, Mo.; a brother, Milford Shell of Marble Hill; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son and a brother.
Friends may call at Buchholz Mid Rivers Mortuary in St. Charles from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, with a VFW salute service at 8.
Friends may also call at Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Fred Ritter officiating. Burial will be in Baker Cemetery near Marble Hill, with full military honors provided by VFW Post 5900 and Missouri Honors Team.
