Sigmund M. Reid, 83, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, at the Missouri Veterans Home.

He was born Aug. 17, 1917, in Alton, Ill., son of DeLafayette and Florence Lillie Miller Reid.

He married Betty L. Haney Whelan Oct. 23, 1993, at Ste. Genevieve, Mo.

He was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Jackson, Mo.

He had worked for Alton Box Board in St. Louis as a salesman for more than 20 years. He moved to Cape Girardeau in 1994. While serving in the U.S. Army from 1942-1946, he received the rank of captain.

Survivors include, his wife, Betty Reid of Cape Girardeau; stepmother, Dorothy Reid of Fort Myers, Fla.; a son, Thomas Reid of Woodlands, Texas; a daughter, Robyn Mannix of Belle Mead, N.J.; a stepson, Larry Whelan of Cape Girardeau; a stepdaughter, Brenda Lufcy of Cape Girardeau; a brother, William Reid of Muncie, Ind.; a sister, Martha Rhinehart of Alton; a half brother, Robert Reid of Alton; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Ford & Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dean Heady officiating.

Burial will be at 12:45 p.m. at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.
