MORLEY, Mo. -- Shirley Jo Smith, 77, of Cedar Hill, Texas, formerly of Morley, passed away Saturday, May 31, 2014, at Charleston Methodist Hospital in Dallas after a 30-year battle with cancer. She was born Dec. 25, 1936, in rural Benton, Missouri, to Jake B. and Pansy Lane Smith...

MORLEY, Mo. -- Shirley Jo Smith, 77, of Cedar Hill, Texas, formerly of Morley, passed away Saturday, May 31, 2014, at Charleston Methodist Hospital in Dallas after a 30-year battle with cancer.

She was born Dec. 25, 1936, in rural Benton, Missouri, to Jake B. and Pansy Lane Smith.

Shirley was a 1954 graduate of Morley High School. After working at Charleston Shoe Factory she moved to Dallas. She was a member of Valwood Baptist Church in Farmers Branch, Texas.

Survivors include a son, Gary Wayne (Janice) Smith of Cedar Hill; a granddaughter, Amy Jo (Cammie) Woodard of White Deer, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Ben and Abby of White Deer; two stepgrandchildren, Rachel Short of Euless, Texas, and John (Sarah) Short; three great-stepgrandchildren, Trevor, Reily and Gracie of Cedar Park, Texas; three sisters, Mary Ann Phillips and Jean Wells of Morley and Lillian Milam of Jonesboro, Illinois; and a brother, Henry Ulys (Jean) Smith of Tucson, Arizona.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Jake B. Smith Jr. and John Earl Smith; two sisters, an unnamed infant and Wanda Mae Penrose; and two nephews, James David Phillips and Ivan Milam.

Burial will be at a later date in Hickory Grove Cemetery near Morley.
