Shirley Ann Shoemaker of Perkins passed away at her home surrounded by her loved ones Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at the age of 81.
She was born Oct. 1, 1942, in Memphis, Tennessee, to Julius Joseph and Norma Maxine Pippen Trost. On March 1, 1964, she was united in marriage to Tommy Shoemaker in Chaffee. He survives of the home in Perkins.
Shirley was a proud alumna of Chaffee High School, where she had been a member of Willow Grove Rockettes Skate Club. She was a devout member of Perkins Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, vacation Bible school teacher, member of the Sunshine Sisters singing group and the Women’s Missionary Union for almost 50 years.
Shirley worked as a hairdresser in Oran for 30 years and was the assistant manager of Michelson Jewelers but went on to retire from Rogers Jewelers in 2010 as a certified diamontologist.
She loved visiting with her grandchildren, growing flowers in the garden and cooking meals for her family.
Survivors include her husband, Tommy Shoemaker of Perkins; daughter, Laura (Shannon) Koch of Chaffee; son, Ryan Shoemaker of Oran; two sisters, Carolyn (Bill) Phillips of Fort Worth, Texas, and Betty (Walter) Finney of Springfield; five grandchildren, Brannon Koch, Laney Koch, Jacob Shoemaker, Dixie Shoemaker and Fletcher Shoemaker; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 8, at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, at the funeral home, with Brother Ernie Sorrells, Brother Kenny Shoemaker and Brother Tom McCanless officiating. Interment will follow in the William Cemetery in Perkins.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Crown Hospice in Cape Girardeau. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
