Shirley Beel

Shirley Ann Beel, 82, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, Jan. 22, 2023, at Chateau Girardeau.

She was born June 20, 1940, in Kelso, Missouri, to John Schwartz and Johanna Backfish. She and Edward Paul Beel were married Aug. 29, 1959, in Kelso.

Shirley worked at Southeast Hospital for 36 years and retired in January 2003.

She enjoyed camping and traveling throughout the states, Germany and Hawaii. She loved bands, dancing and playing cards with other couples.

Survivors include her husband; niece, Jill Essner of Cape Girardeau; sister, Mary Spinks of St. Louis; and many great-nieces and -nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; son, Thomas G. Beel; and brother, John Schwartz.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, Jan. 27, at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral will follow at noon Friday, Jan. 27, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Allan Saunders officiating. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Memorial contributions may be given to Southeast Hospital.
