JACKSON -- Sherman Cooper Cracraft Jr., 80, of Jackson died Tuesday, March 7, 2000, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born April 6, 1919, in Jackson, son of Sherman Cooper and Berenice C. Miller Cracraft. He and Elizabeth "Betty" Blackwell were married May 24, 1941. She died Feb. 3, 1975.
Cracraft was a graduate of Jackson High School, and 1941 graduate of Southeast Missouri State University.
He was principal at Patton High School before entering the military. He was a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, serving in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
Cracraft was employed at the Jackson Post Office 25 years, retiring as assistant postmaster in 1973. He was a member of New McKendree United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Judge Mary Miller Cracraft of San Francisco, Calif., Susan Blackwell Cracraft-Schmidt of St. Louis; a brother, Gene C. "Rusty" Cracraft of Jackson; four grandchildren, Geoffrey Rosser of Conway, Ark., Michael Mueller, Sara Schmidt and Edward Schmidt of St. Louis.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Cracraft of Corvallis, Ore.
Friends may call at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Home from 10-11 a.m. today.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at the funeral home. The Rev. Jimmie Corbin will officiate. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
