ANNA, Ill. -- Funeral service for Selma Cherrick of Anna will be held at 2 p.m. today at Beth Hamedrosh Hagodol Cemetery in St. Louis, with Rabbi Michael Datz officiating.

Crain Funeral Home in Anna is in charge of arrangements.

Cherrick, 74, died Tuesday, May 28, 1996, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

She was born April 11, 1922, in New Brunswick, N.J., daughter of Sam and Ethel Shirken Goldstein. She and Walter H. Cherrick were married Feb. 10, 1946, in Newark, N.J.

Cherrick and her husband operated Gamm Shoe Store in Anna many years. She was a member of B'nai Israel Congregation in Cape Girardeau, member and past president of Townsend F. Dodd Unit of the American Legion Auxiliary, and past matron of Anna OES Chapter 522.

She served on the board of directors of Union County Chapter of the American Cancer Society and had been the Reach for Recovery participant for the chapter. She served on the board of directors of Union County Counseling Service and Fellowship House, and on the board of trustees of Stinson Memorial Library.

Cherrick was named Citizen of the Year in 1983 by Southern Illinois District of National Association of Social Workers, and received a citation in 1989 from the Illinois Health Improvement Association.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Alan Cherrick of Springfield; a brother, Carl Goldstein of New Brunswick, and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters.
