Scott Wayne "Catfish" Baker, 56, of Lewisville, Texas, passed away Monday, July 28, 2014, following an optimistic and courageous struggle with kidney cancer. His greatest joys were his strong faith, family and friends. He enjoyed playing guitar, writing songs, watching baseball and NASCAR. His musical tastes were many, including his beloved Rolling Stones. He was most content when he was cooking for others or crappie fishing with his buddies...

Scott Wayne "Catfish" Baker, 56, of Lewisville, Texas, passed away Monday, July 28, 2014, following an optimistic and courageous struggle with kidney cancer.

His greatest joys were his strong faith, family and friends. He enjoyed playing guitar, writing songs, watching baseball and NASCAR. His musical tastes were many, including his beloved Rolling Stones. He was most content when he was cooking for others or crappie fishing with his buddies.

Scott was born March 3, 1958, in Richmond, California, to John Alvin Baker Jr. and C. Iola Martin Baker. He grew up in Cape Girardeau, attended St. Vincent de Paul Grade School, and graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1976.

His family owned and operated Baker's Big Burger, where he developed his passion for food and love of cooking.

Scott moved to Dallas in 1980, and married Lori Reites in Lewisville in 1988.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Scott is survived by his wife, Lori; children, Scott Jr. and Carissa Anne of Lewisville; mother, Iola Baker of Flower Mound, Texas; siblings, John Baker III and wife Beverly of The Colony, Texas; Tina Bollinger and husband Dan of Flower Mound, Brad Baker and partner Kevin Faulkner of Austin, Texas, and Lisa Freeman and husband Steve of Edmonds, Washington; a niece, Jenna Edwards and husband Josh of The Colony; a nephew, John Baker IV and wife Molly of The Colony; many loving in-laws; an army of friends; and a host of Tom Thumb grocery associates.

Scott was known for his infectious smile, love for all, genuine kindness, and giving demeanor. His final gift was to UT Southwestern Medical School in Dallas to contribute to a cure for others.

Family and friends will celebrate Scott's life at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Relevant Life Church, 2150 Texas Highway 121 Business (at Corporate Drive), Lewisville.

Dalton and Son Funeral Home in Lewisville is in charge of arrangements.
