Sarah Elizabeth Brewer, 73, of Big Sandy, Tenn., died Sunday, Jan. 5, 1992, at her home.
She was born Jan. 14, 1918, in Benton County, Tenn., daughter of Johny B. and Carrie Dyar Brewer.
Brewer received a bachelor of science degree from Bethel College in McKenzie, Tenn., and a master's degree from Peabody College in Nashville, Tenn.
She taught in Benton County Schools, and from August 1961 to December 1981 she taught library science at Southeast Missouri State University.
Brewer organized and sponsored an undergraduate library fraternity and was one of the organizers of the first Children's Literature Festival, which is an annual event.
She was a member of Missouri Association of School Librarians and Missouri State Teachers Association for many years. Brewer was a member of Daughters of American Revolution, Daughters of American Colonists, Colonial Dames XVII Century, Huguenot Society, United States Daughters of 1812, Retired Teachers of Benton County, and Alpha Phi sorority.
Survivors include five sisters, Ona Jones and Ruth Wynn of Big Sandy, Inez Edwards of Old Hickory, Tenn., Eddie Turpen of Paris, Tenn., Josephine Murphy of Jackson, Tenn.
She was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.
Funeral service was Jan. 7 at Stockdale-Malin Funeral Chapel in Big Sandy. Oscar Greer officiated, with burial in McRae Chapel Cemetery.
