ORAN, Mo. -- Samuel Edward McElyea, 58, of Chicago died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, at his home.
He was born Oct. 27, 1941, in Oran, son of Robert Edward and Matlean Lawson McElyea.
McElyea graduated from Oran High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1961-1963. He attended St. Thomas Apostle Catholic Church in Chicago and had lived in the city for the past 20 years.
Survivors include two daughters, Robin Drum of Kansas City, Mo., Julie Upchurch of Scott City, Mo.; his father of Chicago; two brothers, Steven McElyea of Chicago, Greg McElyea of Mokena, Ill.; two sisters, Mary Dumey and Virgie Koeppel of Jackson, Mo.; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother and a sister.
Private visitation and funeral were held Saturday at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson. Msgr. Edward Eftink officiated. Burial was in Russell Heights Cemetery at Jackson.
