Wilma Sally Powell, 96, of Sulphur Springs, Texas, formerly of Jackson, passed away Friday, March 18, 2016, at her home. An only child, Sally was born Feb. 23, 1920, in Cape Girardeau to Jess and Lydia Kaiser Crites. She and William “Bill” Kurre were married April 9, 1937. They had one daughter, Judith Ann. They had been married nearly 16 years when Bill passed away Jan. 16, 1953...

Wilma Sally Powell, 96, of Sulphur Springs, Texas, formerly of Jackson, passed away Friday, March 18, 2016, at her home. 

An only child, Sally was born Feb. 23, 1920, in Cape Girardeau to Jess and Lydia Kaiser Crites. She and William “Bill” Kurre were married April 9, 1937. They had one daughter, Judith Ann. They had been married nearly 16 years when Bill passed away Jan. 16, 1953.

Sally and Joe Myer were married Feb. 12, 1955. They had been married 25 years when Joe passed away March 10, 1980. She and Garland Powell were married March 31, 1984. They had been married only 2 1/2 years when Garland passed away Nov. 16, 1986.  

Sally was raised in Cape Girardeau and attended Cape Girardeau schools. After her marriage to Bill, she resided in Jackson and remained there until 2011, when she moved to Sulphur Springs to be near her daughter.

Sally was a lifelong active member of Emanuel United Church of Christ in Jackson.

Her employment included 29 years at the former Hosiery Mill in Jackson, the former Buckner Ragsdale and the former Hartford’s in Cape Girardeau.

Loving survivors include her only child, Judith Ann “Judy” Hudgins of Sulphur Springs; two grandchildren and their spouses, Kevin K. and Rebecca Hudgins of Sulphur Springs and Kimberly and Gregg Holt of Mount Pleasant, Texas; a stepgranddaughter, Lacey Boyd and husband Kyle of Godley, Texas; six great-grandchildren, Kade, Kyle and Keeley Hudgins, Caleb Holt and MacKenzie and Emma Boyd.

In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Mike Hudgins; and a stepgrandson, Chase Holt.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Monday at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Sam Roethemeyer and Joe Rowley officiating. Burial will be at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to the Memorial Fund of Emanuel United Church of Christ in Jackson.
