Ruth Volkerding, 97, of Jackson fell asleep in Jesus on Tuesday, June 23, 2015, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau. She was born June 22, 1918, in Cape Girardeau County to Albert and Ida Lange Siebert. She and Walter Rose were married April 3, 1948. Ruth Volkerding, 97, of Jackson fell asleep in Jesus on Tuesday, June 23, 2015, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

She was born June 22, 1918, in Cape Girardeau County to Albert and Ida Lange Siebert. She and Walter Rose were married April 3, 1948. They had been married 15 years when he passed away Sept. 26, 1963. She and Joseph Volkerding were married Aug. 15, 1970. They had been married 23 years when he passed away Oct. 21, 1993.

Ruth was a loving, devoted wife and mother. After moving from the farm in 1965, she worked as a cook at several locations, retiring from St. Paul Lutheran School in Jackson after 10 years of service.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Gordonville since 1948, where she was active in the Ladies' Aid and previously taught Sunday school.

She is survived by a son, Darryl (Connie) Rose of Bartlett, Tennessee; two stepdaughters, Judy (Dean) Wendel of Gordonville and Jane (Kenny) Windisch of Cape Girardeau; five grandsons, Brian Rose of Bartlett, Michael Rose of Denver, Mark Wendel of Gordonville, Matthew Wendel of Jackson and Chad Windisch of Cape Girardeau; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Raymond (Elsie) Siebert of Cape Girardeau; three sisters, Dena Kamp of Burfordville, Eugenie (Harold) Wessel and Pearl Keller of Cape Girardeau.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sherry Rose; a sister, Ruby Siebert; and a brother, William Siebert.

Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church in Gordonville.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Wayne Schwiesow officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church.
