Ruth Rhodes

Ruth M. Rhodes, 83, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, June 23, 2007, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Gir­ar­deau.

She was born March 29, 1924, in Cape Girar­deau, daughter of Monroe and Mary Proffer Jones. She and Samuel W. Rhodes were married in March 1953 in Piggott, Ark. He died Nov. 7, 1999.

She was the owner and operator of Ruth's Bargain Center on South Spanish Street in Cape Girardeau and also worked at the Salvation Army Thrift Store.

Survivors include three sons, Samuel Rhodes and Larry and Vernon Swader, all of Cape Gir­ar­deau; two daughters, Norma Windeknecht and Rose Mary Clover, all of Cape Girardeau; a brother, George Jones of California; two sisters, Ruby Dice of California and Jeanette Hamilton of Texas; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 20 brothers and sisters, a son, and a grandchild.

Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ford & Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

Service will be at at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Bill Kitchen officiating.

Burial will be at Hobbs Chapel Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
