Ruth M. McCain, 86, of Crestwood, Mo., died Friday, Aug. 13, 2010, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau. She was born Aug. 21, 1923, in Cape Girardeau to Edward A. and Anita C. Brune Polack. She and Glenn Miller McCain were married June 1960 at Cape Girardeau. He passed away March 2001...

Ruth M. McCain, 86, of Crestwood, Mo., died Friday, Aug. 13, 2010, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Aug. 21, 1923, in Cape Girardeau to Edward A. and Anita C. Brune Polack.

She and Glenn Miller McCain were married June 1960 at Cape Girardeau. He passed away March 2001.

Mrs. McCain graduated from Southeast Missouri Teachers College and received her master's degree from George Peabody College of Teachers in Nashville, Tenn. She was employed by the Cape Girardeau school system, University City schools and Parkway school system and retired in 1981.

After her retirement she and Glenn enjoyed traveling and spending their winters at Marco Island, Fla.

Ruth was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau. She was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church in St. Louis.

Survivors include stepdaughter Mary Suits, Columbia, Mo.; stepsons, Bob McCain, Danville, Calif., and Thomas (Joyce) McCain, Cohasset, Mass.; sister, Helen Polack, Cape Girardeau; brother, Bob (Dorothy) Polack, Cape Girardeau; five step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and three nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brother, Edward A. Polack, Jr.; and sister, Marie Harshaw.

Visitation will be from 2:30 to 3 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Chapel.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. today at the funeral home, with the Rev. Gary Hoffstetter officiating.

Burial will follow at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Memorial contributions may be given to Ascension Lutheran Church in St. Louis.
