GLENALLEN, Mo. -- Ruth M. Barker, 83, of Glenallen slipped into her Savior's arms Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2016, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
She was born April 12, 1933, in Formosa, Arkansas, daughter of Thurman Otis and Rosie Chew Thompson. She and Clinton D. Barker were united in marriage Nov. 1, 1950.
Ruth and Clinton were the owners of the Barker Grocery Store in Glenallen from 1966 to 2012. She was instrumental in helping get the Glenallen Fire Department Auxiliary organized and was a member of New Trace Creek Missionary Baptist Church, where she was song leader.
Survivors include her husband, Clinton Barker of Glenallen; sons, Kenneth (Shelia) Barker of Glenallen and James (Debra) Barker of Marble Hill, Missouri; daughter, Karen (Bill) Perkins of Prineville, Oregon; sisters, Wynona Buxton of Oklahoma and Martha Louise Barker of Glenallen; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Linda Hebert; grandson, Zachery Barker; and great-grandson, Douglas Landers.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the Alzheimer's Association.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Kenneth Shoemaker officiating. Interment will be in Barker Family Cemetery in Glenallen.
