Ruth Ann Murphy, 100, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Olive Branch, Ill., died Saturday, April 21, 2001, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Oct. 15, 1900, at Dunningville, Ill., the daughter of Louis Martin and Octavia Brown Dunning.

She married James Lee "Joy" Murphy on Jan. 23, 1922.

She was a member of the Olive Branch United Methodist Church. She worked for more than 35 years as a clerk at the Illinois State Mental Hospital in Elgin, Ill. She moved to Cape Girardeau in 1975 and then to Olive Branch in 1980.

She lived in Olive Branch until she moved to Saxony Village in Cape Girardeau in 1995. She had been in the Lutheran Nursing Home since early this month.

Survivors include a sister, Pauline Ambler of Cape Girardeau.

She was preceded in death by her husband and three sisters.

Friends may call at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms, Ill., on Monday from noon until 2 p.m.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. The Rev. Jerry Herring will officiate. Burial will be in the Olive Branch Cemetery.
