Ruth Amanda McHaney, 94, of Jefferson City, died Thursday, Nov. 16, 1995, at Capital Region Medical Center-Memorial Campus.

She was born April 22, 1901, in Cainsville, daughter of Robert A. and Bernice May Shaw Chambers. She and John William McHaney were married Oct. 1, 1928.

McHaney received a bachelor of science degree in nursing from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1925. After completing courses in public health nursing at Simmons College in Boston, Mass., she traveled throughout Missouri setting up and serving in Well Baby clinics for the Missouri Department of Public Health, Division of Child Hygiene. She was also a registered nurse with the Red Cross many years.

She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, PEO Sisterhood, Century Study Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, and former president of Council of Clubs. She served as Girl Scout commissioner several years. She was a member of the Benjamin Rush Society of Rush Presbyterian-St. Luke's School of Medicine in Chicago.

Survivors include a son, James McHaney of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Ruth Roberts of Holts Summit; seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church in Jefferson City, with the Rev. Rudolph Beard officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Friends may call at the church from 1 p.m. to service time.

Houser-Millard Funeral Home in Jefferson City is in charge of arrangements.
