NEW MADRID -- Russell Laverne Walker Sr., 74, of New Madrid died Friday, May 16, 1997, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. He was born May 25, 1922, in Sikeston, son of Jasper Newton and Myrtle Walker. Walker lived in Sikeston most of his life. He retired from Union Electric in 1988. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II...

NEW MADRID -- Russell Laverne Walker Sr., 74, of New Madrid died Friday, May 16, 1997, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born May 25, 1922, in Sikeston, son of Jasper Newton and Myrtle Walker.

Walker lived in Sikeston most of his life. He retired from Union Electric in 1988. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include three sons, Russell Walker Jr. of Marble Hill, Jay Walker of New Madrid, Mark Walker of Temple, Texas; six daughters, Carol Bettinger of Belton, Texas, Janet Walker of East Prairie, Dorothy Holland of Mesa, Ariz., Shirley Coffer of Grenada, Miss., Dianne Ivy of New Madrid, Margaret Aragona of Imperial Beach, Calif.; 18 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter.

Friends may call at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston from 5-8 p.m. Sunday.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston.
