James Russell Campbell, 72, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2004, at his home.
He was born Aug. 3, 1932, in Cape Girardeau, son of Fred and Dessie Runnells Campbell. He and Alvernia Wilkinson were married Jan. 24, 1952. She died Nov. 16, 1984.
Mr. Campbell's working career included bellhop at Marquette Hotel, deckhand for Marquette Cement and Farmers Service Bureau, cab driver and dispatcher with Kelley Transportation, Manpower at Procter & Gamble, Westlake Quarry, owner/operator of newspaper distributorship for Southeast Missourian and St. Louis Post-Dispatch, owner/operator of Russell's Wrecker and Boulevard Laundry, and worked the family farm north of Cape Girardeau. He was currently retired.
He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Michael (Fran) Campbell of Millersville; five daughters, Dawn (Jamie) Poole of Tamms, Ill., Debra Dalton of Cape Girardeau, Linda (Jerry) Hardin of Scott City, Phyllis (Leroy) Hogan of Oran, Mo., Carla (Jerome) Lindner of Oak Ridge; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles W. "Red" Campbell.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. today.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. William Nale officiating. Burial will be in Lorimier Cemetery.
