Funeral service for Rufus I. Claspill of Maplewood was held Tuesday at Jay B. Smith Funeral Home in Maplewood, with the Rev. Tom Ripper officiating. Burial was in Valhalla Cemetery in St. Louis County.

Claspill, 67, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 1996, at St. Mary's Health Center in Richmond Heights.

He was born Feb. 12, 1928, in Maplewood, son of Ira and Dora Claspill. He married the former Charlotte Decker, who preceded him in death.

Claspill had been a postman in the St. Louis area.

Survivors include three sons, James Claspill of St. James, Robert Claspill of San Antonio, Texas, Richard Claspill of St. Louis; four daughters, Susan Craig of Jackson, Diane Hess of Cape Girardeau, Nancy Gann of Biehle, Linda Davis and Charlene Maxey of St. Louis; 14 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
