PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Rueben B. Hotop, 80, of Perryville, well-loved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather, passed away peacefully Monday, Nov. 10, 2014, in Perryville, surrounded by his family.
He was born March 29, 1934, in Perry County, Missouri, son of Alphonse and Rose Welker Hotop.
Rueben was a lifelong carpenter. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Apple Creek, Missouri, and its Men's Group.
He served in the National Guard four years.
Survivors include 12 children, Wanda (Roger) Schremp and Deborah Richardet (Mark Brown) of Perryville, Doris Hotop of North Liberty, Iowa, Ronald (Connie) Hotop and Allen (Sheryl) Hotop of Perryville, Sandra (Richard) Miesner of Frohna, Missouri, Patrick (Tammy) Hotop and Michael (Margaret) Hotop of Perryville, Diane (Wes) Mahnken of Frohna, Paul (Deborah) Hotop of Perryville, Lawana (Steve) Wichmann of St. Louis and Clarita Hotop (Mary Beth Minges) of Warrensburg, Missouri; a brother, Robert Hotop of Cape Girardeau; 36 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Mary Ann Hotop-Winterberg.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Rueben Jr.; two grandsons, Chad Hotop and Roger Schremp Jr.; four brothers, Herbert, Wallace, Joseph and Clyde; and a sister, Rita Mueller.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 6:30 to 9 a.m. Thursday at Young and Sons Funeral Home. The rosary will be recited at 8:30 a.m. Thursday.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Church in Apple Creek, with the Rev. Jim French officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery in Apple Creek.
Memorials are preferred to St. Michael's Cemetery Fund or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
