RUBY WEST

ESSEX -- Ruby L. West, 83, of Cupertino, Calif., died Friday, March 28, 1997, in El Camino Hospital in Mt. View, Calif.

She was born Jan. 12, 1914, at Dexter, daughter of Isaac and Mary Majors Crawford. She and Ernest West were married Jan. 31, 1934, in Essex.

West lived in Essex most of her life, moving to Cupertino 10 years ago. She and her husband owned and operated West Grocery Store in Essex many years. She was a member of Missionary Baptist Church of Essex, Rebekah Lodge, and Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Barbara Gwozdz of Cupertino, Joe Ann Gately of Long Beach, Calif.; a sister, Lila Butler of Cotton Plant, Ark.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter.

Friends may call at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter from 5-8 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Doyle Corlew officiating. Burial will be in Essex Cemetery.
