Ruby F. Shrader, 80, formerly of Jackson passed away Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011, at Liberty Village in Maryville, Ill. She had resided in the Maryville area the past few years to be near her children.
She was born April 19, 1930, in Lamar, Ark., to Alfred and Lydia Greener Breedlove. She was the valedictorian of Gideon High School class of 1947, and thereafter she moved to St. Louis for employment.
While riding the city bus to work at the former PIE Trucking Co. in St. Louis, she met and fell in love with her husband, James E. Shrader Sr. They were married Feb. 4, 1954, at Dexter, Mo.
They briefly lived in St. Louis, and then lived in the Madison-Granite City, Ill., area from 1958 to 1991. Ruby was a devoted wife, mother, and an accomplished poet and writer, and previously wrote "Ruby's Ramblings" in the Southeast Missourian. James worked 30 years at Procter & Gamble, retiring in 1991. They moved back to Jackson after his retirement, and became members of Crossroads Fellowship Church.
James passed away Nov. 15, 2007, and shortly thereafter, Ruby moved to Illinois. Her church membership remained at Crossroads Fellowship in Jackson.
Loving survivors include two sons, James E. Shrader Jr. and his son James "Trey" of Bethalto, Ill., Rev. Timothy Lee (Debbie) Shrader and their children Beth Anne, Rachel and Nate of Litchfield, Ill.; a daughter, Dynette (Michael) Rogier and children Joel and Lydia of Glen Carbon, Ill.; three brothers, Ray (Shirley) Breedlove, Doyle (Shelby) Breedlove, Jerry Breedlove; and a sister, Geneva Camp of Scott City; dear brothers and sisters-in-law, Leman (Luella) Schrader of Jackson, Norman (Deana) Shrader of De Soto, Mo.; and many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Roy Breedlove.
Friends may call from noon to service time Sunday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with Dr. Brian Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Berrong Cemetery at Zalma, Mo.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to Crossroads Fellowship and Parkinson's Foundation.
