RUBY SHANKS

MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Ruby Pauline Shanks, 73, of Marble Hill, Mo., died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at St. Frances Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Dec. 4, 1927, in Poplar Bluff, Mo., daughter of William and Sawrah Montgomery Beck. She and Roscoe Shanks were married Aug. 10, 1946, in St. Louis.

Shanks moved from St. Charles to Marble Hill in 1973. She was a member of the Locust Grove General Baptist Church, where she taught adult and children Sunday school and was vacation bible school coordinator. She also was a member of the church choir.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, David G. Shanks of St. Charles, Mo., and Marty Shanks of Jackson, Mo.; two daughters, Melinda Proffer of Scopus, Mo., and Beverly J. Ritter of Honolulu; two sisters, Mae Beck of Marble Hill and Hazel Inman of Granite City, Ill.; five grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, two sisters and three brothers.

Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. today at Hutchings Funeral Chapel.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Locust Grove General Baptist Church. The Rev. Phillip Jordan will officiate, with burial in Baker Cemetery in Marble Hill.
